I'm using Vista. Although I want to degrade down to XP, but I just don't feel like it. Some of my hardware might not be able compatible with XP so I don't think I will.

I'm awesome and use XP, simply 'cause it's the best untill Windows 7 comes out fully. Although I'm green with jealousy of my friend who's dad works for microsoft and so he has the full version already...

I bet anything that no OS is gonna beat XP for a long time.

I can bet that XP will be better than windows 7

Hehe, yeah, my love for XP may be too overpowering. Might use my old machine to check out Windows 7.

Still, it might be impressive... Aslong as it doesnt give millions of error messages like Vista every time you try to compile or install something.

I really despise Vista. It's so annoying for everything, the security limits stuff you can do with no way you can turn it off. It is also rubbish for gaming.

If I do change os I would first try CoLinux... it seems pretty cool, running XP / 7 with Linux at the same time.

If you're referring to Vista's UAC, you can disable it by going to msconfig (Run > msconfig), selecting the Tools tab, clicking the "Disable UAC" line, then clicking launch (computer will need to be rebooted afterwards).

I've never tried CoLinux, you'll have to tell me how that goes. In my experience, however, mixing Windows and Linux as a joint operating system doesn't sound like a pleasant experience when you find out that you need to fix an issue at the kernel level because few applications support such an architecture. Unless I'm missing the point of what CoLinux is.. does it just emulate the Windows API like WINE does?

Willdo, I've got a break from work so I can take some time to check it out on my old machine... I suspect it is actually Windows running Linux rather than the other way round if you get what I mean.

Either that or they both just kinda coexist and you get the availabillity from both of them on the same machine? Seems too good to be true, but we shall see.

As for Vista, it has more problems than that, that is just my biggest one, thanks for the fix though, if I'm ever forced to revert to Vista.

I just checked their website. It's like you said - Windows running Linux. It is kind of like WINE, but Windows is emulating a Linux API rather than than vice versa. It's very similar to cygwin, in my opinion, just more visual-oriented. It might be worth checking out sometime in the future; I'll be sure to post screenshots and whatnot.

Yeah, Vista can be pretty problematic. I won't go so far as to say that I hated using it, but it definitely wasn't as openly user friendly as XP, and I found it nearly impossible to set up a wireless network properly when it was first introduced (though that was completely my fault in retrospect). And UAC is too much of a hastle to deal with regularly - I always wanted it off, but needed it to be on in order for some applications to install. I haven't so much as downloaded the latest Win7 ISO, so I'm not sure how much better it's to be. I'm just hoping for the best.

Keep me noted with all your OS voyages, I would be most intrigued to see if Windows made any major changes to 7 from the Beta. As for CoLinux, one of my friends volunteered to try it out for me so I should have some results to post up for all to see soon (ish, if the fool can get it to work :ermm:)

Seven / 7

is another failing system that will come out from Microsoft.

I just installed #! CrunchBang Linux on one of the boxes yesterday. I'm still working on getting a few things to work the way that I want after a kernel mishap last night (my fault, but nothing serious, just reverted back to the previous kernel version for now).. I'll let you guys know what I think in a few days or so.
